Kohakuto (琥珀糖)  literally means amber sugar. It is a Japanese traditional candy, and has been made for about 400 years since the early Edo Period. It is good for tea time, and it is often served as a part of the tea ceremony.


The texture is unique. It has a crunchy shell on the outside and a jelly texture on the inside. Crystallized sugar makes the crunchy shell on the outside. When you hold the candy in your hand, they tumble and sound like rocks, at first bite they have a crunchy shell and in the inside you find a delicious refreshing jelly!

Chamoy is made using pickled fruit and combining it with chilies. It’s a popular Mexican condiment. Ultimately, it’s a paste that is used to coat things or put them in sauce. Since the flavors are unique, you get a blend of sweet and sour mixed with spicy. 

What does Mexican Chamoy candy taste like?
